Top 25 films, to procrastinate revision

I'm feeling good, I'm so close to the end of school (ever) that i can practically taste it.
if you observant you will have noticed a list of 25 film, if your a film buff you will probably recognise these as the top 25 films on the IMDB. reason, I've decided i cannot become a film student if i haven't watched the top 25 films on IMDB, I've already watch a majority of these and those are the one that are white with a rating at the end out of ten, the ones i need to watch are marked in green and I'll put the rating i expect at the end, when i watch them they'll change to red and have my actual given rating. if I'm done pretty quickly I'm move onto the next 25 and if i have the 25 after. so by the end of summer i might have watched the IMDB top 75. i think in uni I'll start to aim at watching all the films in the 1001 films to watch book

1) The Shawshank Redemption (11/10)
2) The Godfather (5/10)
3) The Godfather: Part II (6/10)
4) The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (8/10)

machete is fucking awesome

you wanna film with just fun action and gore then you want machete, which btw is pronounced ma-chet-tay. with complete lack of storyline steve seagal, rober deniro and danny trejo, what more could you want. 9/10

on the other hand, the prestige i also watched last night, was a reguarly placed big teist film directed by christopher nolan, it was beautiful and well done and hard to guess and made you go wow at the end with any major action, fun or gore. 7/10

my somewhat unhealthy obcession with denzel washington

coursework season is nearly over, 2 more days then i can do what i want, and revise.

over the past couple of months i've picked up a liking for films staring denzel washington, which are films usually directed by tony scott. to be fair all the films follow the same storyline. denzel washington is normal bloke, somthing kinda related happens, an explosion, bad things, dezel washington is the hero. but they are all a little different and i love them all in their individual ways. i think everyone needs to face the fact that denzel washington is pretty amazing. so the 2 most recent films i've watched,

The Taking Of Pelham 1, 2, 3: 7/10
Man On Fire: 9/10

suprisingly there are a lot more films of his i need to watch, since they release about 2 a year.

True Romance With Men Who Grow Backwards And The Third Kind, And Other Stuff

So if i were lying I'd say the reason that the reason i haven't written a blog post in over a month is because I've been busy finishing up coursework, if i hadn't written a blog post within the past 2 weeks this would have been true, but its been over a month. so loads of stuff has happened in the last month, but nothing too exciting, or at least exciting enough for people to listen to me about. although since all my course work was due in on Friday, I've watched a film a day, close encounters on Friday, Benjamin button on Saturday and true romance on Sunday. so now I'm gonna do a short review on each, happy face.

Close Encounters Of The Third Kind: 8/10
i love this film originally straight after watching it i was thinking 10/10 but after i calmed down from the initial excitedness of watching this fantastic film i realized a couple of negative points which marked it down for me. the main thing being is that it is the most rushed story i have ever seen, this film isn't short or anything its like 2 1/4 hours long, its just theres plenty of story to go round. it almost feels like this film was a novel and they just squeezed in all the essential components, the main thing which suffers this kind of thing is there is no point for he wife or family, it wouldn't make his character a different person, or make you think any more or less of her. then there is that random bloke who joins them then dies really quickly for no appereant point, the film would be the same without him and then at the end when the aliens take him there is no explanation why he wants to go. it just feels like if there was more time these thing could have been said or could have effected the film in some way. things i love though are, the soundtrack, the amazing special effects (made in 71, believable today), the bit where he goes mental and is chucking stuff in his house.

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button: 9/10
expected something different from this film, but got somthing much better, some aspects of the film are weird, and its just like WHY!!!! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!!!! but otherwise fantastic, really convincingly acted and brilliant story, really powerful message. now i think about it there are a few things that annoyed me one being the stupid filter they used for like half the film, it was horrible, and then it suddenly disappeared, also they should have left the film with Ben and not the current day, but both of these are such minor point within a movie so good.

True Romance : 7/10
recommended to me by Calum and he lent me this to watch. at the time i was on a major Tarantino binge and he said 'hey here's a film that was written by tarantino' so i was like 'hells to the yeh, i wanna borrow this'. so now i finally got around to watching it and yeah it was good, but i've seen a lot better, but i don't think this film should be associated with Tarantino, although he has defiantly got a lot of influence, but there is major Tarantino missing. the non-linear storyline - missing, the ending build up - un-Tarantino-y and the end its self was pretty badly written - not Tarantino. other than that though, brilliant film, fantastic characters, fantastic acting to match. generally ok film.

going to see Source Code and probs Suckerpunch, will blog them soon keep an eye on the recent films sidebar and also follow my twitter, there's a widget over in the sidebar too. also might do a blog about my general life and stuff since i do them a lot less frequently now.

short review of shutter island

shutter island is all about characters, and i love characters. DiCaprio was brilliant he had so many different level of emotion and feelings to express and all of them were executed brilliantly. direction was fantastic, there is defiantly a reason i have heard Scorsese's name before, pity I've never payed any attention to him, the writing was pretty good as well, but it comes from a novel so that's what you'd expect. the only thing which really holds it back for me is that the twist was far too guessable, this isn't the films fault though, its that twists in modern films come so often now that it makes them easier to guess, this kinda made me not be waiting for the end. if that makes sense, essentially although it was brought together well at the end, i didn't really need to see it to understand what was going on. after the reveal though you can go back though the film and see all the characters acting their part in Teddy/Andrews fantasy and that's fantastic, so will be watching again in future. but another major point i put down this film on is the use of unnecessary crap and the over empathises of it. for instance when that woman goes shhhhhh at Teddy/Andrew at the start that's way overplayed, since it has no relevance to the film, there is no need to put the clip in EVERY trailer, poster and screenshot list available. also the whole thing where Teddy/Andrew attacks the other inmate who jumps on him. that's supposed to be a hint to show that he is comfortable to attack other inmates because he is one, saying that a police Marshall wouldn't, but i think anybody in that position would attack back, its a way overplayed piece of the plot. overall pretty fantastic film. 8 or 9 /10

i love this video. not only is it a good video but it proves the brilliance, power and popularity of the shining, which in my opinion is one of the greatest 'horror' films of all time and some of these people's reations show their opinions are similar.

short review of dinner for schmucks

not very funny really, somtimes boring, steve carell was as hilarious as he could be but the story jus din't allow for that much funny, certainly would call it more of a drama than a comedy. zach galafinakis and his character was posibly the funniest bit. good film, not as good as expected, not recommended for anybody who dosen't like romantic films cus this has a major romantic plotline, also don't watch if you're a carell fan, it'll ruin your opinion of him, i still love him tho. 5/10

Quick review of the social network

fantastic, was a little hard to get into, its very fast paced and can sometimes feel like your losing the plot of the film but you're not. watching it made me understand a lot of what people were saying about it, yes it is about facebook, but there is also a lot else to this film, i think you only see the actuall facebook homepage once so yeh. really fun, really exilarating, and i learn a lot about the beginings of a website i care so little about but i still enjoyed it.
